R404a Gas Overview

R404a gas is designed to meet the needs of many new and existing refrigeration systems. R404a is an almost azeotropic HFC refrigerant blend with zero ozone depletion potential and classified under ASHRAE’s A1 category (lowest toxicity and flammability level).

Applications

R404a gas is widely used in industrial refrigeration, supermarket refrigerators, and cold storage facilities. It does not have flammable properties and is commonly selected for industrial refrigerators in market aisles. R404a refrigerant is being phased out in favor of new generation refrigerants that aim to reduce environmental harm, which may exhibit flammable characteristics.

Is R404a a Blend or a Pure Gas?

R404a is a blend and not classified among pure gases. This refrigerant is composed of 44% R125, 52% R143a, and 4% R134a. As a blend, it requires consistent liquid transfer to the system to prevent mixture distortion.

Stacking Methods

Our company offers R404a gas in various stacking methods. This gas is available in 12-liter (Net 10 KG), 61-liter (Net 45 KG), 1000-liter (Net 750 KG), and 22000-liter (19,500 KG) cylinders. For the 12-liter cylinders, we provide both types with and without dip tubes. In dip-less cylinders, the cylinder should be inverted when transferring liquid R404a to the system, while in dip-tubed cylinders, the cylinder should be positioned upright.

R404A is a refrigerant gas belonging to the HFC (hydrofluorocarbon) family and is especially preferred in many industrial and commercial cooling applications.

  • Chemical Formula: R404A consists of three HFC components, C3HF8, C2H4F2 and C4H10. The combination of these components provides the effective cooling performance of R404A.
  • Ozone Layer Depletion Potential: R404A has zero ozone layer depletion potential.
  • Global Warming Potential (GWP): The GWP value of R404A is 3.922. This high value has led to its use decreasing in recent years due to its environmental effects.
  • Cooling Capacity: R404A has a high cooling capacity and provides higher energy efficiency than other refrigerants.
  • Critical Temperature: The critical temperature of the gas is 72.1°C, which allows R404A to remain in liquid form even at high temperatures and allows systems to operate effectively in high temperature conditions.
  • Liquid Density: The liquid density of R404A is 1.045 g/cm³.
  • Boiling Point: The boiling point of the gas is -46.5°C.
  • Water Solubility: R404A has very low water solubility.

The use of R404a gas is not prohibited. Instead of R404a gas, more environmentally friendly R290 and R448a / R449a gases have begun to be used. Systems that will switch from R404a to these gases must be completely changed.

R404a gas is not a flammable gas.
